i want something

“I don’t like this Valentine’s Day card.”

“I’m not fond of cleaning up.”

“That does not make me happy.”

“STOP IT!”

“But I want something!”

Yesterday, I begged Big Friend to take Little Friend to work with him for the day.  Just as a little Valentine’s Day present to me.  He laughed.  Did he think I was kidding?  Fortunately, he read my mood and offered to spend an hour cleaning up the kitchen after our filet-mignon-risotto-asparagus dinner.

Have I given you a glimpse of the zeitgeist around here these days?  Three words–double ear infection.

People, I had no idea.  Are those two floppy appendages on the sides of our head really this critical to the overall mood of a teeny-tiny tot?

Also, I had no idea “Mommy” could be stretched into seven syllables at a certain timbre and pitch that punches bloody holes in my own eardrums.

In addition, I had no idea how short a fuse I could have when a veteran whiner is in my vicinity.

Finally, fair warning, I’ll weep when the next person tells me, “If you think this is bad, just wait until you get to the teenage years.”

We’re here already folks.  That does not make me happy!

Here’s wishing you a truly happy, ear-infection-free, belated Valentine’s Day.

Not sure what I’m doing next.  I just suggested a stroller ride to Little Friend, and I got, “That wouldn’t make me happy either.”

If your eardrums aren’t bleeding, they should be.

Here’s hoping for sunnier days ahead…

I feel exactly the same way here…bleeding ear drums and he’s only 2 1/2. My little one has the same exact expressions as yours, too funny. My husband came home yesterday and I told him I didn’t even know how many melt downs he had…I lost count. Here’s to hoping the teenage years aren’t THAT bad:) Hang in there:)

  2. They make shirts that say Teething is the pits, I wonder if they don’t make shirts about ear infections because the adjective would most likely be a 4 letter word! I feel your pain Beth. You might let her try chewing a nice big piece of gum, you know the kind thats so big it’s a little hard to chew (maybe 2 regular pieces together would do the trick). It sounds so silly, but repeatedly opening and closing your jaw beyond the normal extent can help drain the tubes. And, there’s usually no side effect – except in this case we can hope it will keep her mouth busy enough to stop whining 🙂 You can also try explaining to her how cute she can be, and how un-cute whining really is! Much love and patience! You’ll get through this!

  5. Goodness! I hope the poor cutie feels better soon. Hope you catch a break too. I know it’s hard when the kiddos are sick. Wishing you happier days ahead.

Hope Little Friend and her Mommy are feeling sunny again soon. Don’t worry about the teenage years. Every age has its moments of glory and “this doesn’t make me happy”.
